I host a weekly live online discussion group, usually on the Telegram platform, that I call, “Friday Night Militia Talk”. For some reason, Telegram is not working for me tonight (12 September, 2025).
So, I sent this out to the mailing list for the group, and perhaps it is worth preserving here.
“Looks like FNMT will not happen on Telegram tonight. I am sorry to miss your always thoughtful and interesting input, but here is what I was going to say to any who showed up. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, may he rest in peace, is the immediate occasion for it, but as with all of what I say, it applies 24/7/365, in all of our home 20s.
If I had a recognized Constitutional militia in my home County, and Charlie Kirk, or any potentially controversial figure, was scheduled to speak here, our liaison officer would have reached out to the speaker with an offer of security overwatch. If it was accepted, he then would contact the local sheriff, chief-of-police, etc, and tell them that we had been invited, and would schedule a meeting to plan the security deployment.
Not rocket science. In most places, a local militia would be able to triple (or more) the eyes paid LE could apply to the job.
Not rocket science. Our local militia would know the lay of the land, every rooftop, hill, and line-of-sight for miles around the venue.
A 300-yard radius has less than a 2000 yard perimeter. 50 men, including our group and as many paid guys as could be spared, could put men all around it, less than 40 yards apart.
There is no excuse for Charlie’s death, no excuse for the vile criminal who pulled the trigger, no excuse for any confederates or enablers he had, no excuse for those who disrespect the truth enough to choose or advocate violence over reason. And no excuse for us, who could have saved him, with a little of the diligence the writers of our Constitution expected of us.
